Description

Description

Inspired by the mystery and the magic of the unicorn, our 2016 Grand Esprit Saint-Estèphe reflects the terrior and harmonious balance between man and land. This wine from the renowned Médoc sub-region in Bordeaux offers structure and length, balanced with a rich, expressive palate. Matured in new and seasoned French oak for 12 months, this wine shows exceptional complexity and richness with great potential to age.

Wine & Vintage Details

Tasting Notes

Color: Deep red colour.
Nose: Layers of black fruits and earthy tones, the intense bouquet is completed with toasted cacao notes.
Palate: Lean and powerful tannins provide a well balanced structure. Red pepper, cashew and vanilla notes round out the wine. A great wine to age!

Vintage

2016 is an exceptional vintage in the Bordeaux region. The season started with a very mild winter and wet spring. A drop of temperature in March and April slowed the vineyards growth, and a good and even flowering suggested a promising vintage. A beautiful sunny summer followed and allowed perfect ripeness with optimum temperature differentiation between day and night, which supported the development of flavour profile. To ensure ideal ripeness of Cabernet fruit, Vintage primarily took place in October.

Vineyard & Winemaking Details

Winemaking

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc from Saint-Estèphe, Médoc. 30% French New Oak, 70% French Oak barriques. During fermentation, only delestage is used over the 4 to 5 weeks of skin contact to extract the tannin and colour. The wine was then pressed, blended and transferred to barrel for 12 months.
