Chateau St. Jean has a long history of crafting expressive Pinot Noir from various regions throughout Sonoma County. It is with this continued passion to pursue beautiful expressions of this capricious grape that we have crafted a Pinot Noir gem from the famed Sonoma Coast AVA. This cool-climate region offers Pinot Noir grapes that are rich in concentration and offer a distinctive Sonoma style.
The wine offers the hallmark Pinot Noir aromas of red cherry, strawberry and black tea notes. The vivid aromas lead to a juicy, plush palate with loads of fruit flavor and gentle hints of clove spice. The rich fruit is balanced with the bright acidity you would expect from a cooler climate expression, leaving a long and flavorful finish.
The 2015 growing season was another beautiful vintage with mild temperatures and no weather upsets throughout. The season got off to an early start in the spring and continued through to an early start of harvest with dry and uniform weather. The resulting grapes, although overall yields were slightly down, were of very high quality.
The Pinot Noir grapes were handled very gently from vineyard to winery. To start, the grapes underwent a three day cold soak prior to fermentation. After fermentation, the free run juice was drained and sent to barrel to complete malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 14 months in 100% French oak (41% new) before being allowed to gain further complexity in bottle for another year.
